Frequently asked questions

Can I take musical instruments with me as hand baggage?

We will allow musical instruments on board as hand luggage if they are the same size as or smaller than a guitar, and in a soft case.

Musical instruments that are larger than a guitar will only be carried on board if they occupy an extra seat. Click here for the charges for carrying larger musical instruments.

Given their length double basses are not allowed in the cabin.

You can book the extra seat linked to your own booking via the call centre. You will be charged neither a seat reservation fee nor a call-centre processing fee if you contact our call centre. If you book the extra seat on the same day up to midnight, you pay the same fare as for your own seat. If you book the extra seat at a later date, the fare as stated on that day on germanwings.com will apply

Germanwings assumes no liability for the transport of musical instruments in the cabin.

On flights operated by our partner airlines their hand-luggage conditions apply.
