Travelling to and from Hamburg Airport (HAM)


From outside the city you can get to Hamburg Airport from the following directions: Schleswig-Holstein using the A7 motorway, Schnelsen-Nord exit; Mecklenburg-Vorpommern using the A1 and A24 motorways, Horn (A24) exit; and Lower Saxony via the A7 motorway, Schnelsen-Nord exit. From the city centre the airport is well signposted.

The AirportExpress and local Hamburg buses all depart from right outside the terminals.

The airport is linked to the main train station via suburban train line S1 every 10 minutes. Journey time is around 25 minutes. "Hamburg Airport (Flughafen)" suburban train station is right in front of the terminals. More info here »


Taxi ranks are situated after you exit the arrivals areas in terminals 1 and 2. Journey time to the city centre is around 30 minutes. Taxis to the city centre cost around 20 €. Tip: you can agree on a fixed price for journeys to and from places outside Hamburg.

Hire cars:

There are centrally-located Sixt and Avis rental locations at all Germanwings destinations. Reserve a car here and get great bargains.

At Hamburg Airport (HAM)

The airport is 8 km northwest of the city centre. Around 60 airlines operate direct services from Hamburg to approx. 115 national and international destinations.

For comprehensive tourist information please go to the Airport Office on the arrivals level of terminal 2. Opening hours: 6:00 to 23:00.


The "Airport Parking" guidance system tells you the shortest way to free parking spaces, whether you want to use the P1 to P5 spaces near the terminals or the P8/P9 parking area near "Weg beim Jäger" road. Overall the airport has more than 11000 parking spaces.
