Frequently asked questions

Can I reserve a seat when I book?

You can reserve a seat in advance on all Germanwings flights for a charge.

You can select either a standard seat or a Best Seat (rows 1 – 10), with more legroom.

In the Smart and Flex fare brackets you can reserve a standard or best seat free of charge.

It’s easy to reserve a seat up to 3 hours before departure – during the online booking process, via the call centre or at the airport counter. During the online booking process you can reserve a seat in the second step by clicking on the seat you prefer in the seat diagram.

If you’ve already finished booking, you can add on a seat reservation in the “My Germanwings” section. You can also reserve a seat later via the call centre or at the airport counter.

Please note that the following people cannot sit in the row next to the emergency exit on Germanwings flights, the authorities deeming there to be a security risk:

  • infants and children (up to and including 17 years of age)
  • people who bring animals on board
  • expectant mothers
  • people with physical and/or mental disabilities
  • people with reduced mobility due to their body size or age

When you reserve a seat next to the emergency exit, you declare that you and the people you are booking for do not fall into any of these categories. If you do fall into one of these categories, we reserve the right to allocate the person(s) in question a different seat. We will not reimburse the reservation cost. In case of doubt Germanwings cabin crew have the right to decide.

If you want a bit more room and comfort during your Germanwings flight, you can book a private seat, meaning the seat next to yours is kept free.

After you have booked your flight you can contact the call centre to book a private seat. We do not apply the seat reservation charge or the processing fee when you book a private seat via the call centre. If you pay for the private seat before midnight on the day you book, you simply pay the same price as for your own seat. For private seats booked at a later date, the online flight fare published at germanwings.com on the day of the booking will apply.

You are not allowed to have another person accompany you in the private seat.

Private seat reservations do not mean any increase in luggage or hand luggage allowance. You may, however, bring on board a musical instrument (for instance, a cello).

Private seats cannot be transferred. The usual rebooking conditions apply.

You do not need to check-in for the private seat before departure.

For flights operated by our partner airlines the respective airline’s conditions apply.
