Can passengers travel with wheelchairs?
Passengers with disabilities may of course bring their own wheelchairs with them providing they do not run on wet batteries nor use batteries that are not sealed or leak-proof. If your wheelchair runs on a battery, please note that wheelchairs or other battery-operated mobility aids with a leak-proof dry or gel battery can only be carried if the battery is not connected and ready for use and if the battery terminal is protected against short circuits and isolated. The battery must also be securely attached to the wheelchair or mobility aid.
We are happy to carry wheelchairs free of charge, but we would ask you to reserve this additional service when you book in step two of the online booking process. Under “additional services for the flight” please click on “optional services” and enter the service you require for the outward and return flights.
If you want to register a wheelchair after you have completed the booking process, you can do so up to 3 hours before departure free of charge at “My Germanwings”. Log in and click on “Change booking“ and “Add additional services”. Click here for further information on adding extras at a later date.
As a rule we can carry a maximum of five passengers with wheelchairs per flight. We can only carry larger groups of passengers with wheelchairs where specific arrangements have been made with us.
