Where and when do I need to collect and check in my baggage?
You always need to collect your baggage and check it in again when you change planes with Germanwings.
In Cologne and Stuttgart there is a special transfer desk in the baggage arrivals hall. Here you can check in your baggage straight away for your next destination and you will receive your boarding card for your connecting flight.
The baggage surcharge is only levied once meaning there is no extra surcharge to be paid between the airport you change at and the final destination.
In Berlin you must collect your baggage and proceed to the normal check-in desk. The check-in desk is well signed and only 100 meters from the baggage arrivals hall. Here you check in your baggage and will receive your boarding card for your connecting flight.
Important – Customs rules for third countries:
If your departure airport is outside the EU, for customs reasons you unfortunately are not allowed to use your transfer desk in the baggage arrivals hall to check in your luggage. This is the case for one-stop flights from the following departure airports:
Belgrade, Istanbul, Izmir, Moscow, Split, St. Petersburg, Zadar and Zagreb.
Please collect your baggage in the baggage arrivals hall and proceed to the normal check-in desk in the departure hall. Here you can check in your baggage and you will receive a boarding card for your connecting flight.
