What documents does my child need for the flight?
As well as the booking number all travellers need an identity card, even children/youths and babies (depending on the destination an entry in the parents' passport may be sufficient). Please contact the respective consulate for information.
Please note that in France and Spain children and adolescents under 18, who do not have their own passport, need to provide a written parental authorisation to be able to leave their home country. The authorisation is an official form that can be obtained from your local town hall or police station and must be filled out and signed by the parents.
When travelling to and from Croatia, children and adolescents under 18 (under 14 for Croatian nationals) who are not travelling with an authorised carer, must have their own passport as well as the written authorisation of their parents. The authorisation must be notarised. A notarised written parental authorisation is also required for children under 12 travelling to and from Portugal.
Germanwings can only carry children under 12 years of age if they are accompanied by a legally responsible adult. On routes within Germany we do, however, offer a service for children travelling alone.
If the accompanying person is not the child's legal guardian, we require the written authorisation of the parents and/or the legal guardians. You can download the necessary form here. [Download form] Without written permission we will unfortunately have to refuse to carry the child.
Children under 12 years of age must be booked under the same reservation as the accompanying person (same booking number). If this is not the case, please contact our Call Centre up to 3 days before departure so that we can insert a note on the reservation of the accompanying person.
Please note:
On routes to and from Romania, when a minor is travelling alone or accompanied by a person who is not the legally responsible adult, notarised authorisation from the legally responsible adult is needed . This is also the case when a minor is travelling with only one of the legally responsible parents.
