Frequently asked questions

Are there restrictions on the number and weight of pieces of baggage?

Germanwings levies a surcharge for each item of checked baggage.

Even if you have more than one item of luggage, there is a general weight limit of 20 kg.

If you check in more than 20 kg of luggage, an additional excess luggage fee is levied.

Each passenger may check in items of baggage up to a maximum weight of 50 kg at the desk. However, individual items of baggage must not exceed 32 kg in weight.

Customers who have booked in the Best fare bracket can check in one item of luggage (no special or excess luggage) free of charge.

Customers who have booked in the Flex fare bracket can check in up to five items of luggage (no special or excess luggage) with a total weight of up to 20 kg free of charge.

If you do not register excess luggage during the booking process online, via the call centre or subsequently online in the "My Germanwings" section, you will be charged a higher flat-rate fee when checking in at the airport.

For special baggage, such as sports equipment and pushchairs/travel cots, special provisions apply. Please make sure your name or other personal identifying mark is displayed on each piece of checked baggage.
