Up to what stage can pregnant women travel?
Pregnant women who have no medical complications can fly up to the 35th week of their pregnancy without hesitation They will not be exposed to any increased risk to their health. Please note that, when requested, you must present a doctor's certificate (mother pass) to substantiate the length of your pregnancy. After the 35th week of pregnancy, up to the birth, pregnant women are deemed in principle no longer fit to fly.
Generally speaking, women should avoid flying during pregnancy if they are:
- expecting a multiple birth (twins, triplets etc)
- have already experienced a miscarriage
- suffer from a heart or circulatory disease.
At all stages of pregnancy there is also an increased risk of thrombosis.
The best course of action is to speak to the doctor monitoring your pregnancy before your planned flight in order to rule out taking any risks.
