Krakow - Poland's cultural capital
Krakow is situated in the wooded foothills of the Tatra Mountains. Thanks to the medieval, renaissance and baroque buildings of the Old Town, many of which were partially and laboriously renovated, Krakow was named UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1978. Since the fall of communism the cultural capital of Poland has been reborn, its old Jewish quarter, Kazimerz, is celebrating a revival and there are new restaurants, cafés and jazz cellars. Krakow is a city that oozes jazz, in the bars and clubs of the Old Town the golden years of the 20s come to life.
