Berlin - old and new capital

This lively metropolis is full of contrasts. The city divided by the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989 is now a melting pot of international flair and has a rich cultural scene. Amble through the Brandenburg Gate along the grandiose boulevard of Unter den Linden towards the museum island. Shoppers are spoilt for choice in Berlin, whether you want the traditional shops on the Ku’damm or trendier places in the centre or on Bergmannstraße in Kreuzberg, which has small shops, boutiques, cafés and second-hand places.

Travelling to and from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

Car:

By car you can reach the airport using the A113 motorway or the 4-lane B96a trunk road.

Airport-Express:

The Airport-Express has connections every 30 minutes from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to Berlin's city railway system (RE7, RB14) and the Südkreuz train station hub (RE9). There are thus four buses per hour from the airport to the main train station.

Suburban train (S-Bahn) / Bus:

Regional train line 22 (RB22) goes from Potsdam main train station to BER via Golm. Journey time from Potsdam main train station is 42 minutes. There are other direct Airport-Express connections to Brandenburg via Berlin's city railway system and Potsdam Babelsberg train station to Dessau (RE7), and via Königs Wusterhausen to Senftenberg (RB14). The X7 and X11 high-speed bus services connect BER with Rudow and underground line 7 (U7) every 5 minutes. The X11 continues via Lichterfelde-West to Dahlem. There are other bus lines offering connections to the public transport network and other destinations in Brandenburg.

Trains:

The underground intercity train station has four platforms for intercity destinations and two for suburban trains. As well as having connections to the regional transport network there are also trains from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to national and international destinations. There are direct intercity trains to Hamburg, Münster and Hanover, as well as to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Krakow.

Taxi:

There are taxis available outside the central arrivals building. Journey time to the city centre is around 45 minutes.

Hire cars:

There are centrally-located Sixt and Avis rental locations at all Germanwings destinations. Reserve your car here and get great bargains.

At Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)

Soon Berlin Brandenburg Airport will open its doors, meaning all air traffic in the greater Berlin-Brandenburg region will be concentrated at the new airport. The capital region offers business travellers, tourists and firms a high-tech airport with excellent connections, international flights, its own motorway exit and a train station under the terminal building. Given its central location most important European destinations will be easy to reach. Tegel and Schönefeld Airports will be closed.
The Germanwings Airport Sales desk will be open Mon-Fri 06:00 - 20:00, Sat 06:00 - 19:00 and Sun 08:00 - 20:00. For departures outside of these times the Airport Sales desk will be open two hours before departure. The Germanwings Airport Sales desk is on the gallery (level E02).

Parking:

The airport has several multi-storey car parks near the terminal for short and medium-term stays, as well as long-term parking spaces near the Airport City.

Check-In:

The check-in desks are in the north of the terminal hall. Flights leave from the north pier so please make sure you are at the airport at least 30 minutes before departure.
